My Great British Home

Hello everyone, your probably all thinking "wait a second post by Rachel in the same week what's going on is she ill?".  Oh very funny no I'm not ill guys but it IS a rare occasion.  I'm posting this as the deadline for this post is the 27th of April and I really wanted to enter this linky by Britmums.  The reason being is well I hardly ever talk about my home here on my blog do I?  Infact I don't think I ever do! Which indeed means it's over due!  So where do I live?  Well I live in a private rented 2 bedroom house.  It's in a lovely area which I adore and is close to a primary school and not to far away from the centre of town.  Unfortunately the house hasn't been looked after by the landlord, in a way to be honest I can't wait until the windows break, at least then hopefully I'll get double glazing!  Despite that I do love this little (not so little when I think about it) house but I will be hopefully moving into a 3 bedroom house in the future (hopefully in about 2 years time).

So what is the style of my house?  Well at the moment it's kinda of random as I've not had the money to spend on it much in the past BUT this is changing.  Matthew supports me and David a hell of a lot and works his bottom off.  There is no real colours scheme apart from maybe in the bathroom where I would like it green and white and in my son's bedroom which is pirate themed.  I'm not too bothered about this though as when I move out I'll have to paint it all plain again anyway so might as well leave down stairs and other rooms and just make small changes until I move.

I'm kind of a "cute" kinda girl and I love buying cute things.  However I do like going BIG on main items like sofas and units etc.  So it was no surprise to me that went I did the Great British Home quiz located here that I was given the "Mr & Mrs Glamours".  However I found it pretty insulting that I was compared to Towie's Joey and Sam, considering how much I hate that show.  I was given this quote;

"Everything about you screams glamour; you always look photo-ready, whether you are working out, shopping in designer boutiques or snuggled up at home in your designer onesie. You crave home comforts that make a statement - a faux fur blanket, embellished cushions and lots of crushed velvet. You use neutral shades mixed with metallic. Pride of place are family portraits, kitchen gadgets and the keys to your Range Rover."

I would say the only things true from this quote are, family portraits, kitchen gadgets and the range rover. Though to be honest I'd prefer a Land Rover.  Photo-ready makes me laugh a girl can only dream hey? If you would like to take the test for yourself you can do so by clicking here

So what are my Great British Home wishlist items?

- Black corner sofa 3x4 with red scatter cushions
- A classic coffee table with enough draws
- New fancy storage compartment to go next to the front door for bits and bobs and crafts!
- A nicer mirror to hang up in the living room and a mirror for my beauty table
- A new fridge freezer maybe one with an ice dispenser
- New microwave and toaster for the kitchen
- a storage wicken tower for the bathroom
- Better shower system
- More frames for my photos and shelves lots and lots of shelves

So yes as you can see I like cute items but I also like probably "expensive" items though I always try and get myself a bargain.  My dream Great British Home though would have to be a stylish living room, a baking friendly kitchen, a relaxing bathroom and a chic bedroom.  I hope that all my house is covered in chic vintage items too like found on www.nyla-rose.com I mean just look at these lovely items.

Anyway that's about it for this post I hope you enjoyed it.  What is your dream Great British Home?

This post is an entry for the #GreatBritishHome Challenge  sponsored by Victoria Plumb, a source of quality bathrooms for every type of home. Take its “What’s Your Celebrity Home Style?” quiz to discover what your home says about you.

Guest Post | Amy, school life

If you'd have seen Candyflosscloud asking me to write this guest blog post, you would probably have been a bit confused as to why she would consider asking a 15 year old girl to write for a parental blog, what do I know about children? Well, the truth is, I don't know anything about being a parent or even looking after a baby as my sister is only 2 years younger than me. And so for this reason alone, I could understand your confusion. But I know almost everything there is to know about being a daughter and therefore I also know a lot about being a child. Most people on parent blogs come up with tips for parents to help them cope with a young child, but what happens as they get older? This is something I admit to being an expert in; I know what it takes to make a child truly appreciate their parent/s. I know that as I got older, I realised just how glad I was to have parents who could help me with homework and made an effort to be involved in my life. So although I understand that for a lot of you, having a teenager is something you really don't want to think about, I'm going to help you make that transition a lot easier.

Most of you reading this will probably be in your thirties, and without trying to make you sound old, high school was quite a long time ago for you and it's changed quite significantly in the last few years. I'm in my last year at high school, and I've felt the true extent of a lot of these changes.

For me, a normal day at school involves 5-one hour each- lessons, a 20 minute break and a 40 minute lunch. Here I have chosen 1 day of the week to hopefully help enlighten you on an average day at high school.

This is my easiest school day, but even though I know it seems like I don't do much, it really is exhausting.

Now you're probably wondering why I've told you about my school day, right? Well as parents, you need to start getting used to the idea that as soon as your child or children reach high school, you're never going to know exactly what goes on in their lives, even though you might think you do. When your child is a toddler you can pretty much decide what they do, what they eat and who they talk to, but that control goes away. You won't know about that one boy who makes a rude comment every time he sees your child, how they won't eat much at school to fit in, or how they have to fight their way through the shoves in the corridors. And it's a hard thing to accept. But these things do happen.

So I've told you how in ICT I just gossiped with my friend, but I didn't tell you that in the next lesson my teacher kept standing behind my computer, sent my best-friend out for not concentrating and then rang her mum to complain. I told you that I tried to do as little work in art as possible, but I forgot to mention that I spend that lesson in silence because my teacher doesn't like me and sits me on a table of 2 when the other tables all seat at least 6.  I told you that I tried to understand as much as possible in Spanish, but I didn't say that it's hard to focus in that class because most of the pupils mess around, start singing and shouting, and get sent out.

I hope that my point is coming across. As a parent you will never know what truly goes on at your child's school, which is why the relationship you have with them is so important. I tell my mum things like my best friend getting sent out and me having to sit by myself in art, because I'm close to her. That's the relationship all parents should have with their children. When I was younger and not as close to my mum as I am now, I had a big fall out with my best friends which involved a lot of crying, and my parents didn't find out for months.
It might seem like I'm lecturing you, which coming from a 15 year old you might think I have no right to do. But it's important that you realise that you need to maintain the close relationship you have now with your child, while they go on their journey through school.

I've never written a blog post like this, which you may or may not be able to tell, but I do have a beauty blog. If you've read this and think I should write more lifestyle posts, please let me know either through my blog or twitter. Thank you for reading this.

Essex Urban Games: Burnham Version.

So the Saturday just gone (not to be confused with the Saturday before that, which was Ship of Dreams), me and Jake went to Burnham for the day.  Burnham not long ago had there Skate park re-vamped and for the better!  To celebrate this the council organised an event for the day called SX Urban Games.  There were lots of entertainment throughout the day; Free running, Skate competition and Cheerleaders!  The weather was nice and sunny with no rain so there was no interruptions which was good.  There were loads of people at the Skate Park it was packed! It was a good thing though, like to see so many people down there, though don't get me wrong it was nice.  I didn't really know what to wear at first but I was feeling in the mood for a fishnet top but I lost mine a while back.  So instead I wore my ann summers dress over the top of my casual top and rolled it up.  I think it looks pretty good but here is a picture.

The Outfit

Hat - Ebay
Strap top - Primark
lace over top - Ann Summers
Jeans - Primark
Studded shoes - George (Asda)

When we first got down there the free runners were just finishing setting up as well as practising.  I love free running I think it's pretty cool I just wish I could do it ha ha.  There was a DJ in a van, as I like to call it, and it was pretty awesome.  I'm not going to lie I did have a bit of a sing along to some of the songs. After a bit we got hungry so we popped to the local Tesco.  All the sandwiches were reduced..hell yeah! When we got back we munched on our food and waited for he cheerleaders to start.  I was a bit gutted 'cause I missed Doge-ball and I'm a pro at dodging this ha ha.

David wanted to swap lunches with his dad.
We didn't have to wait for long until the cheerleaders showed up.  All the boys were straight away interested ha ha.  David certainly was, he started getting tired and very difficult. I said to Jake "you just wait as soon as the cheerleaders start there show he will be silent.  Was I right? Of course I was ha ha. I took a few photos of the cheerleaders so I found them on Facebook.  I wasn't that impressed as most of there photos on Facebook looked like they should be on top of cars.  Not really appropriate if you ask me but each to there own. The first performance was okay but nothing to get excited about but the second one (when we came back from dropping David off) was much better.

The Cheerleaders
Not long after they had a guy that preformed some beat boxing and wow! It was amazing I thought to myself that he must of been getting help from the DJ but he wasn't none at all!  I filmed the whole thing so I will edit that later and put it on my Youtube.  Next was the Skate competition. Our friend Tom got through to the finals, it was funny 'cause he only entered so he could skate without so many people getting in the way. Before the actual skate boards first it was the finals of the scooters and there were some pretty impressive stuff for scooters, one guy even did a flip! The BMX round was next and well it was pretty boring, all they did was ride up and down on the ramps. At last was the skating final, there were so many that got through but there were so good footwork and Tom's brother Ryan grinded a few times with his Rollerblades.  I can imagine that being hard so I was impressed. After it has finished we were treated to some pro scooters and they did some amazing tricks!

the scooter flip
Finally was the free running event, I knew this was going to be good and very fast so instead of pictures I decided to take a video and I'm so glad I did 'cause I was right. It was all very impressive and I love free running so I enjoyed it free much. I will be editing the video later on in the week so it will be on my Youtube account soon.  You can find a link to my Youtube account in the "Follow me" section.  I have way more to talk about so a new blog will be posted on here in the next couple of days.  Until then byes ♥
